Emergency Department Law Elective
This course has high expectations for its learners. You’ll become familiar with legal basics, malpractice scenarios, and key legal issues in high-risk emergency situations. By examining hypothetical cases, you’ll learn to apply relevant laws, analyze the legal challenges, identify arguments used against emergency physicians, and ultimately reach a conclusion based on legal and ethical principles.
This course emphasizes applying legal knowledge to real-world scenarios. Students will be expected to read assigned materials and then use the IRAC method to analyze hypothetical cases. This involves identifying the legal issue, the relevant rule of law, and then analyzing the facts of the case to see how they fit (or don’t fit) with the legal rule.
